Extract plain-text content from any born-digital PDF — perfect when you need the words but not the layout. PDF to Text — frequently asked questions

What about scanned PDFs?

Scanned/image PDFs have no text layer, so this tool returns nothing. Use OCR PDF to convert images to text first.

Are page numbers included?

Yes — every page starts with a "--- Page N ---" marker so you can navigate the output.

Is the character encoding safe?

Output is UTF-8 with a BOM stripped, which opens cleanly in Notepad, VS Code, Sublime and any modern text editor.

Are tables preserved?

Rows come out one per line, but column alignment is not guaranteed. For structured tables use PDF to Excel.

Can I copy the text out later?

Yes — download once, and the .txt is a normal editable file.
