Shrink PDF file size without visibly losing quality. Great for emailing (Gmail's 25 MB cap), uploading to slow portals, or archiving a decade of documents. We use Ghostscript with the /ebook preset — images are downsampled to 150 DPI, fonts subset, and unused objects removed, typically cutting the size by 40–80%.

Common ways to use Compress PDF

Email large reports

Send a 40 MB report through Gmail by shrinking it to under 25 MB.

Upload to gov portals

Government e-filing sites often cap uploads at 5–10 MB — Compress PDF gets you under the limit.

Store a decade of scans

Reduce the storage footprint of your document archive by up to 80%.

Web-friendly PDFs

Landing-page PDFs load faster and rank better when they're small.

Print by email

Some networked printers reject huge PDFs — shrink first.

Compress PDF — frequently asked questions

How much smaller will it get?

Typically 40–80% smaller depending on how many images the PDF contains. Text-only PDFs shrink less; image-heavy scans shrink the most.

Will quality drop?

The /ebook preset keeps images sharp enough for on-screen reading. For premium print use Compress in a paid tool with lossless mode.

Is the compressed file still searchable?

Yes — text stays as text; only images are downsampled.

What if the PDF is already small?

The output might be similar in size or even slightly larger. That's normal — the file was already well-compressed.

Are annotations kept?

Yes. Bookmarks, comments and form fields survive compression.
